The ViewSonic M2 is tiny for a projector — about the size and shape of a small cake. Copper-colored flan, maybe. Aside from the tote-friendly size, a couple of unique features set it apart from the pack. Built-in streaming lets it project your favorite Netflix and Amazon Prime shows just about anywhere. And it can run off an optional battery, providing a big picture on the go.
Compact, stylish design
Can run off a USB-C battery pack
Worse picture than others at this price
Streaming options aren’t great
Battery not included
Unfortunately the M2’s picture quality comes up short for the price. The color is inaccurate, you can’t disable the Soap Opera Effect and it’s much dimmer than the Epson EF-100 ($800 at Amazon), another compact projector I reviewed recently. Its contrast ratio and overall picture quality are significantly worse than the BenQ HT2050A, my favorite home theater PJ under $1,000. Neither of those projectors can run off a battery, however, and both are much larger.
Since the M2 is a bit different, its mediocre performance has to be weighed against its convenience and versatility. This little unit can easily fit in
Gigabyte’s impressive Aorus 17 line of gaming laptops distinguishes itself from a lot of competitors with the excellent mechanical keyboard it added to the year’s models. That, plus its better-than-average performance and big, 17-inch 240Hz display make it a solid choice as a desktop replacement for the work-from-home, speed-minded gamer. But if you plan to shell out the big bucks — over $3,000 — for the higher-end configurations, you might find some of its limitations annoying given the expense.
Great-feeling mechanical keyboard looks great, too
Lots of connections
Refresh rate choices for the screen are only 240Hz and 60Hz
Confusing and limited ControlCenter utility
Dual, humongous power bricks required for the GeForce RTX 2080 Super configuration
The Volkswagen Atlas is a big, three-row beast of an SUV with its wide body and horizontal design elements. The 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport is only slightly less so. The new variant shrinks the SUV’s body slightly and tweaks the roofline for a sportier profile and more athletic curb appeal, allowing it to better do battle with the new Passport — itself a scaled-down version of the Atlas’ closest nemesis, the Honda Pilot.
New profile looks better, doesn’t cost much space
Even basic cabin tech checks all the right boxes
Comfortable ride over rough surfaces
Fuel economy is just OK
Lots of body movement at higher speeds
The Cross Sport lowers the Atlas’ roofline to 67.8 inches (down 2.3) and shortens the SUV’s overall length to 195.5 inches (5.2 less). The result, along with a bit of a nipping and tucking of the profile, is a much more muscular and athletic take on the standard Atlas’ stiff, brick-like aesthetic.
The slightly shorter length visually pushes the rear wheels out to the vehicle’s corners, giving the Cross
You know how something becomes virtually invisible after you see it often enough? That’s the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in a nutshell. Take some time to look around, and you’ll notice an army of Sprinters crawling your local roadways, whether they’re delivering packages or carrying roofing materials to a job site. These workhorses are ubiquitous for a reason: They’re really, really good at what they do. And with a new generation now in the wild, the Sprinter makes an even better case for itself.
Versatile and capable
Abundant standard safety
MBUX lacks a couple key upgrades
New look, same capabilities
Mercedes-Benz’s vans don’t stray too far from the rest of the family in terms of style. Most of that is apparent in the front end, which picks up slimmer headlights that more closely resemble the peepers on other Mercs. My tester’s unpainted lower body panels actually look pretty boss against glossy black paint — and besides, it’s a work vehicle, why paint the bumpers if they’re just going to get dinged up? The black steel wheels are pretty badass, too.
By this point there’s no question whether OLED-based TVs have the best picture quality available: they do. In my opinion they’re definitely worth the extra money compared to other high-end TVs. The only question that matters is, if you can afford an OLED TV, which one should you buy? LG is the OLED leader and its 2020 CX series achieves as impressive a picture as any TV I’ve ever tested, but right now it’s not the best answer to that question.
Better picture quality than any non-OLED TV.
Superior contrast and off-angle image.
Slim design and packed with features.
Not appreciably better than cheaper 2019 models.
After reviewing the CX, the TV that I recommend most OLED shoppers buy instead is the LG B9 from 2019. I compared the two LG OLEDs side-by-side in my spanking new basement TV lab, and it was really tough to tell the difference between them in picture quality. My measurements sussed out some slight variations, and watching some low-quality material gave a vanishingly small edge to the CX, perhaps because of its improved processing.
But that’s tiny potatoes compared to the huge price difference between the two right
The 2020 Lexus UX 250h makes a very strong first impression. The sharply styled exterior design looks amazing — especially in my example’s cadmium orange paint — and the hybrid’s generous fuel economy claims are worth a double take. Yet it’s hard to fall in love with Lexus’ smallest model.
Stylish design, high-quality interior materials
Excellent suite of standard driver aids
Android Auto joins Apple CarPlay for 2020 model year
Very little cargo space, even for a compact
Lexus Remote Touch controller isn’t great
While efficient, the powertrain is a bit breathless at speed, and there’s surprisingly little room for cargo, passengers or car seats in the UX’s cramped cabin. And even with the 2020 model year tech updates, the littlest Lexus’ cockpit tech can be a bit confusing to use.
Gorgeous and angular, the UX is probably the best execution of Lexus’ SUV design language and, in my opinion, one of the best-looking vehicles in its class. The sharply creased sheet metal plays better with the UX’s subcompact proportions than those of the larger RX and NX models. I particularly enjoy the chunky, RAV4-esque
Samsung is releasing a rugged smartphone for the first time in three years, and this one is built with businesses in mind.
In January 2020, Samsung announced the release of a new business-optimized and ruggedized smartphone called the Galaxy XCover Pro to minimal fanfare and only the briefest of mentions in the tech news cycle. It’s understandable that the XCover Pro didn’t merit a lot of buzz when Samsung’s other 2020 Galaxy devices pack so many flagship features. The XCover Pro isn’t a flagship phone, and it’s not packed to the gills with flagship features that enhance gaming, web surfing, and other consumer uses.
What the Samsung XCover Pro does have is a design built with businesses in mind. There are a variety of applications for the IP68, MIL-STD-810G-compliant device that Samsung consumers probably won’t care about, but businesses looking for a fleet of dedicated, tough, state-of-the-art devices definitely will.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020 will be be held online, in an all-digital version, on August 5.
Samsung will host its Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event in an all-digital livestream this year.
On Tuesday evening, Samsung announced that Galaxy Unpacked 2020 will be held via livestream at Samsung.com at 10 am ET on August 5, when new Galaxy devices will be unveiled.
Samsung traditionally holds two Unpacked events each year, with one event in February and one in August. The February event is typically when phones in its Galaxy S line are revealed.
This year, on February 11, Samsung announced the S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra phones, all with built-in 5G. As Lance Whitney reported in TechRepublic, all three Samsung models come with built-in 5G, an Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED display, and a Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990 processor, but each has different display sizes and different camera specs.
The Galaxy Z Flip, a foldable phone that folds into a square, was also announced at the February Unpacked event earlier this year, as were the Galaxy Buds+ earbuds. The Z Flip is a $1,380 phone with a hinge design that makes it possible to have an AMOLED screen made

The size of another relief package — and how that money is divided up — will determine the amount that individuals and families are eligible to receive in a second economic impact payment. The first stimulus check, which was approved in March, sent each person who met the requirements up to $1,200 apiece, and up to $6,000 for families.
White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow said on Friday that a second stimulus check will be smaller than the first, according to Fox Business. That aligns with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has indicated that the next stimulus

Another coronavirus relief package that could include a second stimulus check is expected by the end of July from Congress. We have an idea when an additional IRS payment might arrive, but we don’t know who will qualify for a second stimulus check. Even if you were eligible for a $1,200 check the first time around, that may not hold true for a second batch.
“I think the people who have been hit the hardest are people who make about $40,000 a year or less,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, when asked July 6 about a second stimulus check. “Many of them work in the hospitality industry. So that could well be a part of it.”
“As soon as the Senate gets back [from its current break], we are going to sit down on a bipartisan basis with the Republicans and the Democrats,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC on Thursday. “It will be our priority to make sure between the 20th and the end of the month that we pass the next [stimulus] legislation.”
Keep track of the coronavirus pandemic.
But reaching a consensus over who should qualify for a second stimulus check and who shouldn’t forms the heart of a debate that’s expected to grow heated when the Senate reconvenes from its current recess.
The signs are good that the Senate will craft another coronavirus relief bill this month, and with it a second stimulus check. But White House and Congressional leaders are signaling another bill might significantly tighten the requirements for a new payment compared to what the CARES Act outlined in March, throwing open the question of who would qualify for a second stimulus payment.
When asked about a second stimulus check this week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, “I think the people who have been hit the hardest are people who make about $40,000 a year or less. Many of them work in the hospitality industry. So that could well be a part of it.”
