It took a full nine months of difficult negotiations for Congress to approve a second stimulus payment. But now, a third stimulus check could be just weeks away from approval. On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she aims to pass President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package in two weeks before handing the bill over to the Senate, where the controlling Democratic party plans to shoulder through a vote without Republican backing. Would the bill beat the previous forecast date of March 14? “Absolutely,” Pelosi said. “Without any question. Before then.”
A faster timeline to approval would mean that a third stimulus check for up to $1,400 per person could get sent out quicker — and could include some important changes that may bring more or less money to your family. Along with the revised timeline is a call to “target” the new stimulus checks, which would restrict the number of people who would ultimately receive one. That stipulation might exist alongside a new allotment of $1,400 for dependents of all ages.
