2021 McLaren 765LT review: Above and beyond

The McLaren 765LT exists because, somewhere along the way, someone drove a standard 720S and said, “Nah, we can do better.” On the one hand, I respect that dedication to perfection. On the other hand, dude’s insane. Nevertheless, meet the 765LT: A sharper, more powerful version of one of the sharpest, most powerful supercars ever built.

Like

  • Insane power, insane acceleration, insane braking
  • Unflappable levels of grip from Trofeo R tires
  • Longtail body looks super cool

Don’t Like

  • Prohibitively expensive
  • Lousy infotainment tech

The 765LT is the latest in McLaren’s series of Longtail models. In addition to being better performers than the cars on which they’re based, the LT versions look a little sweeter, too, largely thanks to the huge, active rear wing, connected to the chassis by two big control posts. Compared to a 720S, the 765LT has a longer rear diffuser, and the front bumper and splitter are stretched, as well. There’s also the awesome roof scoop that feeds air into the engine, which makes all sorts of delightful wooshing and sucking noises that’ll make you giggle. 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo review: Fast but flawed

This vehicle’s styling is pretty lust-worthy.

The 2020 Maserati Levante is something of a bait and switch. It’s like paying for grand cru burgundy and getting a bottle of Boone’s Farm instead. It lures you in with lusty styling, the promise of instant celebrity that comes with daily-driving an Italian exotic and, of course, bonkers speed, especially in top-of-the-line Trofeo guise. This SUV certainly delivers in those areas, though, unfortunately, the Levante falls short in most others.

  • Sublime Ferrari-sourced engine
  • Handsome styling
  • Brand exclusivity

Don’t Like

  • So-so driving dynamics
  • Mediocre interior
  • Way overpriced

But let’s start with the best part of this eye-catching SUV: the powertrain. Behind its intimidating front end is a little gem of an engine, a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 purloined from Ferrari. Despite its rather diminutive displacement, it’s an absolute firecracker — hell, practically a whole crate of dynamite. This engine punches far, far above its weight class, cranking out an astonishing 590 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. And yes, all those ponies make the Levante Trofeo seriously quick, rocketing it from a rest to 60 mph in as little as 3.7 seconds.

Joe Biden won the race for president of the United States on Nov. 3, and already has a plan to help recover the economy. Time is running out for the millions of unemployed Americans who are depending on pandemic relief programs established back in March under the CARES Act, such as enhanced unemployment benefits that will expire on Dec. 31, 2020.

Democrats and Republicans didn’t make a deal to authorize more stimulus money before the Nov. 3 elections, which will leave millions without much-needed funds. Another stimulus package is less likely to happen as negotiations between Democrats and Republicans hit another impasse. President-elect Biden said, “People need relief right now,” during a press conference Tuesday, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer say they won’t move from their demand of a $2 trillion coronavirus relief package. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to insist on smaller, more focused stimulus bills in the region of $500 billion

How to simplify configuring devices via console on macOS

Using tools built into macOS, administrators can console into network and computing devices via USB to establish a connection, as well as configure these devices using the Screen command.

In IT, many positions are compartmentalized based on the primary role’s responsibilities. With every organization being its own entity with unique needs, sometimes these roles will cross-pollinate, and IT pros will find themselves wearing many hats.

To complicate matters further is the influx of heterogeneous networks—populated with all matter of Apple, Linux, and Microsoft devices. Being multifaceted among job roles and proficient with different OSes is increasingly essential to modern IT pros being able to accomplish tasks across multiple platforms, sometimes at the drop of a hat.

Recently my colleague, a Mac systems administrator looking to gain more hands-on experience in network administration, was tasked with configuring several switches that were to be installed in production offices. Having only their trusty MacBook Air handy, they did not have access to the software typically used to configure devices and their laptop did not have the legacy serial port needed.
