Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook review: More Chromebook for now and later

Josh Goldman/CNET

Lenovo released one of the best Chromebooks of 2020 with its IdeaPad Duet two-in-one, a 10-inch Chrome OS tablet with a detachable keyboard and touchpad. However, while its small size and performance are awesome for mobility, they’re limiting if you need to spend hours using it for work. For that, Lenovo’s 13.3-inch IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook is the better bet. It’s also a two-in-one, but it’s more a laptop than a tablet. With the Flex 5, you’re getting a larger display, a full-size backlit keyboard and better everyday performance with its 10th-gen Core i3 processor.

Like

  • Excellent performance and battery life for its price
  • USB-C ports for charging on both sides
  • USI pen-enabled display

Don’t Like

  • Memory can’t be upgraded
  • Display too dim for outside work

Like many Chromebooks right now, though, the IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook (also sold as the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5) is in short supply. It was originally priced at $410 but is currently bouncing between $480 and $490. Still, even at that higher price, the Flex 5 is a good deal for what you’re getting. In the UK, the configuration is better and more expensive at £530. Lenovo doesn’t

If a second stimulus check is approved, when the IRS could schedule payments

How soon could your second stimulus check come? We lay out some possible dates, from when the bill is passed to when your money could actually arrive.

James Martin/CNET

The House approved a stopgap spending measure to avert shutting down the government at the end of the month, but a bipartisan deal on another economic rescue package may still not be imminent. Early voting for the election has begun, but the deadline to approve more stimulus money — and when you could receive the next payment — may not materialize before Nov. 3.

If a second round of direct payments emerges from Washington, the qualifications might not be the same as they were in the first round, and some people could get paid a lot faster than others. Looking at how the IRS sent the first round of stimulus checks to some priority groups before others can offer clues about a possible priority order in a second check; more information is detailed below. Also, make sure you are aware of the most important stimulus payment topics to know, and check back on this story for updates.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 review: A year later, the Active 2 is the smartwatch it promised it could be

It took a year, but Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Active 2 finally gets its long-awaited electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), just like the Apple Watch ($399 at Apple), the Fitbit Sense and Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch 3. The $249 (£249, AU$549) Galaxy Watch Active 2 launched in 2019 but its flagship health feature wasn’t turned on yet. Now the ECG app has received FDA clearance in the US and you can expect it to roll out soon in the new Samsung Health Monitor app. I’ll update this review, originally published in September 2019, once I’ve had a chance to test the ECG.

The Active 2 has a bright, circular AMOLED touchscreen, comes in two sizes (40mm and 44mm) and has a Bluetooth or LTE option. It has improved heart-rate tracking over the original Galaxy Watch Active ($168 at Amazon) and is compatible with Android and iOS, although you don’t get all the features if you pair with an iPhone. The watch also has built-in GPS, so you won’t need to take your phone with you on runs to track distance and route details.

I’ve been wearing the smaller 40mm Bluetooth Active 2 to track my
